Mumbai BMC Plans Major Chhath Puja Arrangements, Five Lakh Devotees Expected at Juhu
Mumbai BMC Commissioner Ashwini Bhide has assured special arrangements for Chhath Puja, including artificial ponds, CCTV, drinking water and toilets, as around five lakh devotees are expected at Juhu Chowpatty.
The meeting was held on Thursday at the BMC Commissioner’s office to discuss arrangements and address the requirements of devotees during the festival. BMC Commissioner Ashwini Bhide assured the representatives that the civic body would provide the necessary facilities based on their suggestions and demands.
Chhath Puja attracts large numbers of devotees to several locations across Mumbai, including Madh-Marve, Juhu Chowpatty, Girgaon Chowpatty, Dadar Chowpatty and Banganga. Juhu Chowpatty is expected to witness a particularly large gathering, with approximately five lakh devotees attending the celebrations.
During the meeting, representatives of the Chhath Puja committees stressed the need for adequate public toilets, separate rooms for changing clothes, drinking water and other basic amenities at the festival venues.
They also demanded the construction of artificial ponds at various locations across Mumbai, wherever required, to facilitate the rituals. The representatives called for all chowpattys to be cleaned a few days before Chhath Puja and requested the construction of a platform at Girgaon Chowpatty for performing पूजा rituals.
The committees also urged the BMC to provide the necessary materials and other facilities for organising the festival.
To simplify the process of obtaining permissions for Chhath Puja celebrations, the BMC will issue instructions to implement a single-window system at all relevant departmental offices. A nodal officer will also be appointed at each location to coordinate arrangements, according to the civic administration.
